Omschrijving

Klik has died 47 billion times.

Boot. Windshield. Bird. Cat. Spider. Bug zapper (248 times — he's been counting). That one Pat Benatar concert where he got swallowed alive during the guitar solo.

He's been bacteria for 500 million years. Been a dung beetle rolling poop balls with the love of his life. Been an ant who lost 100 babies to a single footstep. Been a mayfly who lived one perfect day. Been an octopus smart enough to know he was dying and powerless to stop it. Been a space slug floating in the void for 17 million years of immortal boredom.

He could be anything. Between deaths, in the consciousness sphere, he can choose: whale, human, tree, advanced alien civilization. Centuries of comfort. Millennia of intelligence.

He keeps choosing bug.

Not because he's stuck. Because he's learned something across those 47 billion lives: three weeks of "holy shit I'm alive" is worth more than 200 years of "I'll appreciate it tomorrow." Brief lives don't make you insignificant. They make you present.

Now Klik is human for a while. Living in an apartment. Writing in his diary. Reunited with Crunch — his companion from 100 million years ago when they were aphids on the same leaf, now a dog he searched 300 kennels to find.

And he keeps running into Officer Smith. Traffic stops. Noise complaints. Bee incidents. Smith doesn't remember that he was a medieval priest who once forgave a flea for giving him the plague. Doesn't remember the witch trials he opposed, or the frontier town he protected, or the hundred other lives where he chose order and kept breaking his own rules for compassion.

But he's starting to.

For a Few Beetles More is a comedy about mortality, meaning, and the cosmic significance of insignificant things. It's about choosing presence over permanence. About love that survives 100 million years. About why the mayfly who lives one day fully matters more than the immortal who sleepwalks through eternity.

And about bug zappers. So many bug zappers.

Rating: 10/10. Would reincarnate again.
