The objective of the current book is the application of FEM in regard to analysis and design of buildings. A particular large clear span steel hall is chosen to be the structure under investigation. The book begins with the conceptual design principles of large clear span buildings. Then, the fundamentals of stability analysis of structures are presented. At last, linear buckling analysis is applied in order to carry out stability analysis of two alternative load-bearing systems. The second part of the book involves structural analysis of the load-baring system. In this part also a detail design of a pre-stressed truss frame is performed. In the last part of the book, stress analysis and design of the deep pile foundation is implemented. A numerical methodology for analysis and design of sub- structures is developed and justified. The book conclusions are based on the comparison of the results from the numerical analysis and hand calculations, as well as the experimental data. General recommendations and principles are established concerning the FEM analysis and design of buildings. The book is suitable for both research academics and professional engineers.
