Avec Étranger résident, La maison rouge poursuit son cycle d'expositions consacré aux collections privées. C'est au tour de Marin Karmitz de dévoiler, pour la première fois, un ensemble important de sa collection, soit plus de 300 oeuvres. Cette collection, patiemment assemblée depuis une trentaine d'années, est la dernière réalisation de cet homme plus connu pour les films qu'il a produits et les salles de cinéma MK2 dont il est le fondateur. Marin Karmitz est un enfant de ce siècle, lui-même victime des déracinements engendrés par la Shoah et par le partage de l'Europe en deux blocs. Ses engagements marquent l'esprit de sa collection, dont les oeuvres s'articulent comme s'il s'agissait d'un scénario. À travers différents médiums, cette collection, dominée par le noir et blanc, où la figure humaine est très présente, se montre résolument personnelle et exigeante.

Étranger résident continues La maison rouge's cycle of exhibitions dedicated to private collections. This time it is the turn of Marin Karmitz to present a sizeable portion - more than 300 - of the artworks he has patiently assembled over some three decades. Never shown to the public before, this collection can be seen as the latest creation by a man better known for the films he has produced and as the founder of the MK2 cinema chain. Marin Karmitz is very much a child of the mid-20th century, having himself been a victim of the upheavals caused by the Shoah and by the division of Europe into two blocs. His engagement suffuses these works, which fit together like a screenplay. Whatever the medium, this very personal and uncompromising collection puts the human figure - usually in black-and-white - very much to the fore.
