English summary: Christian Metzs work on the signification of cinema is a fundamental contribution to the history of cinematography. In this collection of his texts, the first shows Metz developing a new mode of cinematographic language, combining ideas from modern linguistics with traditional esthetics. The second section shows his influential use of semiology as a new means of cinematographic thought. French description: Les Essais sur la signification au cinema de Christian Metz (1931-1993) constituent un ouvrage fondamental de l'histoire de la reflexion sur le cinematographe, La premiere partie (1968) marque une premiere etape dans l'effort de Christian Metz pour fonder une approche semiologique du fait-cinema: il signe alors la premiere rencontre entre des modes de pensees inspires de la linguistique moderne et la tradition esthetique des reflexions sur la notion de langage cinematographique .La deuxieme partie (1972) complete ces analyses et en rappelle les premices. Une premiere section, formee d'articles anterieurs a 1968, donc en amont de l'entreprise de l'auteur, montre comment cette demarche nouvelle, aujourd'hui encore trop (et trop mal) connue sous le nom de semiologie, s'articule etroitement et de maniere particulierement originale sur les acquis anterieurs de la reflexion cinematographique.Dans une seconde section, l'on voit se dessiner, a travers un jeu d'avancees et de retours autocritiques, de continuations et de changements de route, les lineaments de cette seconde semiologie a quoi l'auteur s'est attache par la suite (depassement, non reniement), et qui s'inscrira plus tard dans Le signifiant imaginaire (1977).
