Taylor's style of football was often criticised, but it got results, most famously taking Watford to the top flight. It was this that helped him land the England job, a position that comes with an untold amount of pressure.

By the end of a failed World Cup qualifying campaign, he had been battered and bruised - but he still held his head high with pride.
