Founded in 1220 by the Knights of the Teutonic Order, the grand commandery played a leading role as an economic and cultural centre during its first six centuries; a role it still plays 800 years later.
As one of the largest castle estates in the Euregio, the grand commandery is an inspiring venue for hosting cultural events and conferences. Every year, the grand commandery welcomes a quarter of a million visitors from Belgium and beyond for a wide range of activities; from small-scale meetings and seminars, to larger conferences and festivals.
