A Christian teaching of original sin was first worked out by Augustine (354-430). According to this teaching, humankind has been almost naturally born into evil, disobedience to God and idolatry since the Fall of Man.
The author conducts new research into the concept of original sin without either evading Enlightenment's objections nor succumbing to ideas from an older theology, which makes this teaching sound today like notions of a biological inheritance.
The auhtor shows that the classic content of the teaching of original sin and its intellectual problems can be presented with Augustine's position. Furthermore Luther's position (1483-1546) records the beginnings of a theology of language solution. Hamann (1730-1788) articulated these beginnings even more clearly, even when he did not construct a teaching about original sin.
