El método utilizado es el de dos economistas historiadores, reconocidos académicamente, que aplican las técnicas propias de la economía política, de la estadística y de la historia convencional, de modo que los resultados presentan novedosas interpretaciones, entre las que destaca un estudio genuino, sin precedentes, de la evolución de las patentes y nuevas empresas establecidas en Menorca, y Baleares en general, respecto al resto de España, entre 1852 y 1966, que viene a confirmar la tesis principal del libro. Se pretende resaltar la importancia del capital humano y de las innovaciones tecnológicas en el crecimiento económico y en el desarrollo social.The aim of this book is to offer a historical and economic analysis of the island of Menorca from primitive times to the present day, a work that has not existed until now. The method used is that of two historian economists, academically recognised, who apply the techniques of political economics, statistics and conventional history, so that the results present novel interpretations, including a genuine and unprecedented study of the development of patents and new companies established in Menorca, and the Balearic Islands in general, with respect to the rest of Spain, between 1852 and 1966, which confirms the main thesis of the book. The work also highlights the importance of human capital and technological innovations in economic growth and social development.
