Cultural marginalization - which is defined in this volume as the exclusion of individuals, organizations, or communities based on their unique shared values, beliefs, attitudes, and practices, which diverge from the prevailing norms of the dominant culture - is not only widespread but also occurs globally. The purpose of this book is to conceptualize cultural marginalization by considering its inherent complexity and to show why it matters, particularly from a human standpoint.
