L'héritage de l'architecte Christian Hauvette (1944-2011) est double. D'une part, il est l'auteur de constructions originales souvent en rupture avec les conventions et styles de son époque, d'autre part, doté d'une culture protéiforme et d'une curiosité insatiable, il a joué un rôle de passeur auprès des étudiants en architecture des écoles de Rennes et de Versailles où il enseignait.

Le livre rend compte de cette dualité. Sous la plume de Paul Ardenne, sont présentés des bâtiments parmi les plus emblématiques de son oeuvre et en contrepoint, des architectes passés par ses ateliers dévoilent, à travers leurs propres réalisations, combien son enseignement a été fertile. Cette approche originale d'un créateur, qui rend compte d'un moment de l'histoire architecturale en France, est également affinée par les témoignages d'anciens collaborateurs et de celles et ceux qui lui étaient proches.

The heritage of Christian Hauvette (1944-2011) is twofold. On the one hand, he designed original buildings that often broke with conventions and trends of his time. On the other, endowed with a protean culture and insatiable curiosity, he acted as a mentor for architecture students at the Rennes and Versailles schools where he taught.

The book reflects this duality. Paul Ardenne presents some of the most emblematic buildings of his work while, architects who have passed through his workshops reveal, through their own creations, how fertile his teaching has been. This original approach to a creator, which captures a moment in French architectural history, is further refined by the stories of former collaborators and those who were close to him.
