La peinture doit-elle se faire dans un cadre autonome et légitime ? Représente-t-elle une pertinence qui se suffit à elle-même dans un environnement socio-culturel bien défini ? Reflète-t-elle des mécanismes d'action hyper-sensuels, spectaculaires, de nouvelles expériences imaginaires ou de nouveaux champs d'action liés au mécanisme de la représentation ? L'authenticité par excellence de la peinture contemporaine de Champion Métadier réside précisément dans cette question complexe. Elle n'est pas une artiste des années 60, de l'époque où l'on croyait encore au pouvoir de la création d'images pure, libérée de toutes les obligations thématiques conventionnelles, de l'époque où l'on se battait pour imposer sa propre (contre) position. Son questionnement, dans le contexte dense et conflictuel du tout-puissant Simulacrum Factory, crée de nouvelles alternatives. Car c'est, en effet, grâce à cette radicalisation de l'imagination que s'établissent de nouveaux liens entre les différentes sphères du mental, et que la créativité artistique est encore capable d'ériger des ponts et d'ouvrir des chemins.

Oui c'est vrai, il faut trouver un rythme surtout, pas un style mais un rythme, un regard ou une sensation et un souffle où on peut se dire, ah ! ça peut devenir épique, ça peut durer longtemps maintenant pour moi, c'est très important que je puisse vivre et habiter dans l'écriture même si c'est une habitation qui est assez fragile et dangereuse, ça peut tomber, ça peut tomber d'un moment à l'autre...

Habiter dans l'écriture, parfois, j'habite, je me sens par moment en sécurité et j'ai une espèce d'office, je suis le gouverneur d'un état inconnu.

Is painting something that must be carried out in an autonomous, legitimate context ? Does it represent self-supporting relevance within a clearly defined psychological, socio-cultural sphere ? Does it reflect the mechanisms of hyper-sensuous, spectacular actions, new imaginary experiences or new fields of action linked to the mechanism of representation ? What makes Champion Métadier's paintings so very authentic lies precisely in this complex questioning. She is not an artist of the 1960s, a period when there was still a belief in the creation of pure images free of any conventional thematic obligations, a period when people fought to assert their own (counter-) position. In the dense, conflictual context of our all-powerful Simulacra Factory, her questioning creates new alternatives. For it is thanks to this radicalisation of the imagination that new links can be made between the different spheres of the mental, and that artistic creativity is still capable of building bridges and opening up new paths.
