Poppy (Papaver somniferum) is an important medicinal plant. It has high economic value for its alkaloids and secondary metabolites. Many diseases reported on P. somniferum, the opium poppy, includes bacterial, fungal, five species of nematodes and some viruses have been reported to infect poppy.
