The rebellious Belgian architecture bureaus that Arlette Baumans and Bernard Deffet identify themselves with, offer a response to the dull repetition of the past and standard creations, and to certain architectural gestures inspired by the desperate need to look « strong » - to use the words of the political philosophy researcher Géraldine Brausch. The space appropriated by man can never be neutral. The exchange that the authors of this publication propose here sheds a stimulating light on the power strategies that have motivated it, allowing us to decode and better foil these strategies. Their proposal is a healthy one, and we hope that the public and private professionals involved in the world of architecture and urbanism - and in a broader perspective, in the construction of our society - will get the message.
