Les composés organostanniques dans l'eau de mer sont toxiques à des concentrations voisines de 1 ng.l^-1. Leur analyse dans le milieu marin doit donc évaluer correctement des concentrations aussi faibles. Cet objectif est possible lorsque la procédure ici décrite est intégralement respectée. Cette méthode utilise la technique de dérivation des composés organostanniques par le tétraéthylborate de sodium pour la préparation de dérivés éthylés volatils qui sont alors extraits puis injectés dans un chromatographe en phase gazeuse muni d'un détecteur spécifique de l'étain. L'ensemble des équipements, réactifs, procédures et performances analytiques a été décrit. Quelques informations sur la surveillance des côtes françaises permet de situer les résultats dans un contexte plus général.

Organotin compounds in sea water are toxic in concentrations around 1 ng.l^-1. Analyzing them in the marine environment is only of interest if such low concentrations can be evaluated correctly. Full compliance with the method described here makes it possible to achieve this goal. The method uses the technique of organotin compound derivatization with sodium tetraethylborate to prepare volatile derivatives which are then extracted and analyzed by gas chromatography with a tin-specific detector.
