Sous un arbre, devant la maison, était dressée une table où le Lièvre de Mars et le Chapelier prenaient le thé. Assis entre eux, un Loir dormait profondément et les deux autres s'en servaient comme d'un coussin, s'accoudant sur lui et s'adressant la parole par-dessus sa tête. « Pas très confortable pour le Loir, songea Alice. Seulement, comme il dort, je suppose que cela ne le dérange pas. »

Bien que la table fût longue, le trio se serrait dans un coin. « Pas de place ! Pas de place ! s'écrièrent-ils en voyant arriver Alice.

- Il y a plein de place ! s'indigna Alice et elle s'assit dans un grand fauteuil à l'une des extrémités.

- Vous prendrez bien un verre de vin ? » dit le Lièvre de Mars d'un air engageant.

Alice parcourut la table du regard mais il n'y avait que du thé. « Je ne vois pas de vin », fit-elle remarquer.

There was a table set out under a tree in front of the house, and the March Hare and the Hatter were having tea at it : a Dormouse was sitting between them, fast asleep, and the other two were using it as a cushion, resting their elhows on it, and talking over its head. « Very uncomfortable for the Dormouse, » thought Alice ; « only, as it's asleep, I suppose it doesn't mind. »

The table was a large one, but the three were all crowded together at one corner of it. « No room ! No room ! » they cried out when they saw Alice coming. « There's plenty of room ! » said Alice indignantly, and she sat down in a large arm-chair at one end of the table.

« Have some wine, » the March Hare said in an encouraging tone.

Alice looked all round the table, but there was nothing on it but tea. « I don't see any wine, » she remarked.
