Albert Le Normand (1915-2013), l'exigeante quête du Soi...

Né le 14 mai 1915, à la Roche-Vineuse, près de Mâcon, Albert Le Normand fut élève, dès 1932, de l'école des beaux-arts de Lyon, puis de Paris, en 1937, avant d'entrer à l'Académie Julian, dans L'atelier de Jean Souverbie. Il découvrit le Groupe Témoignage de Lyon, avec son indéfectible ami, Claude Idoux, grâce au poète et galeriste Marcel Michaud, en 1941, à Vienne, dans une exposition organisée chez lui, en pleine guerre, par le peintre, Jean Chevalier. Après la Libération, il fit une carrière dans l'enseignement qui le conduira à la direction de la classe de fresque, à l'école des beaux-arts de Paris. Membre du groupe Gurdjieff, à partir de 1947, sur la recommandation du sculpteur Etienne-Martin, il se tourna, à partir de 1966, et définitivement, vers l'Hindouisme. Initié par son guru, il fit alors, plus d'une vingtaine de voyages en Inde. Il mourut le 1^er avril 2013, dans sa maison de la Roche-Vineuse.

Albert Le Normand was born on the 14^th May 1915 in La Roche Vineuse near Mâcon, in 1932 he attended the Lyon School of Fine arts, then the Paris School of Fine Arts in 1937 before joining Jean Souverbie's studio at the Academie Julian. Along with his constant companion, Claude Idoux, he discovered the Lyon Témoignage Group through the poet and gallery owner Marcel Michaud at an exhibition organised by Jean Chevalier at his home in Vienna, in 1941 during the war. After the liberation he went into teaching, directing classes in fresco art at the Paris School of Fine Arts. On the recommendation of the sculptor Etienne-Martin he became a member of the Gurdjieff group in 1947 turning definitively to the Hindu faith in 1966. After initiation by his guru, he travelled in India on more than twenty occasions. He died on the 1^st of April 2013 at his home in La Roche-Vineuse.
