Le " Compendium theologiae " (Abrégé de théologie) a déjà fait l'objet de plusieurs traductions en français et en diverses langues, mais à partir de textes latins déficients qui ne donnent aucune garantie de rejoindre toujours la pensée de l'auteur. Proposer aujourd'hui une nouvelle traduction réalisée sur le texte critique de l'édition léonine ne fera donc pas double emploi avec autre chose qui existerait déjà. On espère au contraire contribuer à mieux faire connaître un livre trop peu fréquenté. À côté des deux grandes synthèses que sont la " Somme contre les Gentils " et la " Somme de théologie ", voici le témoin d'un effort original pour présenter sous une forme résumée l'ensemble de la doctrine chrétienne regroupée autour des trois vertus théologales. Les lecteurs d'aujourd'hui penseront peut-être que cet " abrégé " est encore de dimensions respectables, mais ils découvriront un ouvrage attachant qui mérite d'être mieux connu. -- The 'Compendium theologiae' has already been translated several times into French and other languages, but in each case from Latin texts which are deficient and offer no guarantee of expressing the author's thoughts faithfully. This new translation, based on the critical text of the Leonine edition, is unlike any of the existing ones. Our aim is to make a little-read book better known to the public. Besides the two major syntheses - 'Contra Gentiles' and 'Summa Theologiæ', there is a truly original effort to present, in the form of a summary, the ensemble of Christian doctrine assembled around the three theological virtues. Today's readers will perhaps think that this 'summary' is of considerable dimensions, but they will discover a book they may grow fond of and one that deserves to be better known.
