« À l'image et à la ressemblance de Dieu » est un recueil d'études que Vladimir Lossky a repris et coordonné à la veille de sa mort. Il constitue donc le dernier état de sa pensée théologique. L'auteur réexamine, avec beaucoup de nuances, les positions classiques de l'Orthodoxie : l'expression de la vérité, la Tradition, la signification de la conciliarité et de la catholicité de l'Église, le rôle du Saint-Esprit dans l'ecclésiologie et dans la spiritualité. Sans hésiter à engager une véritable « disputatio » avec les auteurs latins comme Augustin, Anselme de Cantorbéry ou Thomas d'Aquin, l'auteur retrace, dans une approche apophatique, toute l'histoire du salut où Dieu vient à la rencontre de l'homme et l'élève jusqu'à son intimité divine. Le présent ouvrage de Vladimir Lossky reste, avec son « Essai sur la théologie mystique de l'Église d'Orient », une référence incontournable de la théologie du XXe siècle.
