The men about town had those four squads of four named, not prettily: the Shorts, Longs, Thins, and Plumps. The Longs came down the stage last, and, when they started, the orchestra leader waved more brass into the music, and the audience cheered louder than ever; for the four strapping big girls marched down with such a swing, with such an all conquering swagger, that it was delightfully exciting.

Well, then, Teresa was the tallest of the Longs, the one on the right of the line, to the left as you looked. She was also, you recollect, now that I have identified her, the prettiest in the company, as well as the most graceful dancer, excepting the premiere.
