One Hundred Years of Cilantro is a memoir chronicling Sebastian's time in Mexico with his teenage boyfriend, Bobby. Set in 1983, it follows their life in the remote village of Yelapa, a speck on the west coast about twenty miles south of Puerto Vallarta. They arrive in Sebastian's battered 1964 Ford-complete with a hole in the radiator-and leave weeks later on a road trip across Mexico that descends into a nightmarish (and, in hindsight, hilarious) string of breakdowns.
As Sebastian teeters on the edge of sanity, Bobby finds the chaos amusing-until even he's ready to abandon ship. Along the way, they encounter a cast of unforgettable characters: two little fat mechanics, a bartender with a monster dildo, a burnt-out bus driver, and a wacky welder, to name a few.
Do they make it to Houston and the comfort of Sebastian's mom's kitchen?
