Joe Dowell famously topped the US charts in 1961 with his very first record, a cover of Elvis’s ‘Wooden Heart (Muss I Denn)’, a novelty adaptation of an old German Folk song, from Presley’s’ “G.I. Blues” movie.
Unfortunately for Dowell, he enjoyed few international sales because the Presley version was a huge worldwide hit, although it hadn’t been issued as a single in the U.S.
The compilation comprises his two LPs, “Wooden Heart” and “Joe Dowell Sings The German American Hits”, plus the pick of his singles released during 1961-62.
None of this material has been readily available on CD for many years, making this a very welcome release, indeed.
