Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997) est l'une des figures emblématiques du pop art américain. Mais, s'il est mondialement connu pour ses toiles inspirées de l'imagerie des comics et de l'univers de la publicité, son oeuvre ne se résume pas à ces icônes de l'art contemporain. Car Lichtenstein est non seulement peintre mais aussi graveur et sculpteur, et c'est bel et bien dans la globalité et dans l'immensité de son talent que le Centre Pompidou lui rend hommage dans une rétrospective exceptionnelle, la première en France depuis près de trente ans.

Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997) is recognised as one of the figureheads of American Pop Art. Although world-renowned for his works inspired by comic strip and advertising imagery, however, his work cannot simply be summed up by these icons of contemporary art. It is therefore the extraordinary wealth and scope of Lichtenstein's talent, not only as a painter but as a engraver and sculptor, that the Pompidou Centre has chosen to showcase in this outstanding retrospective, the first to be held in France for almost thirty years.
