Josef Albers (1888 - 1976) est parmi les peintres abstraits et enseignants les plus influents du XX^e siècle. Né en Allemagne, il est professeur au Bauhaus, puis émigre aux États-Unis en 1933 où il enseigne au Black Mountain College avant de diriger le nouveau département de design de Yale University. Pierre Mabille réunit neuf artistes, de part et d'autre de l'Atlantique, qui portent aujourd'hui leurs regards sur cette personnalité artistique majeure, à la fois enseignant, designer, photographe, écrivain, peintre et penseur de la couleur.

Josef Albers (1888-1976) is one of the 20th century's most influential abstract painters and teachers. After teaching for a time at the Bauhaus in his native Germany, he emigrated to the United States in 1933. There he taught at Black Mountain College before heading the design department at Yale University. In this volume, Pierre Mabille invites nine artists from both sides of the Atlantic to share their impressions of this major artistic figure, at once teacher, designer, photographer, writer, painter, and color theorist.
