This second volume of René Thom's complete mathematical works contains the 1959 Bonn lectures on singularities and the articles published between 1962 and 1971, together with previously unpublished texts and comments putting the whole into perspective. This includes Thom's impressive contribution to the topological classification of singularities of smooth maps and to the theory of stratified sets. The volume also contains the articles founding catastrophe theory, before the wide-spread vogue and the polemics of the following decade-the comments should cast some light on the theory. The volume begins with a bibliography of Thom's works, mathematical or not.
