Nicolas Vatin is the author of a major work on the history of the Ottoman Empire, especially during the 15th and 16th centuries. Following his nomination to the Academie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres, thirty-four of his friends and colleagues from nine different countries wished to pay tribute to him.
